Dariel Cruz Rodriguez is a Colonial High School graduate and served as Vice President of Student Government. He was also a cadet in the Air Force JROTC program, leading their UAS Drone program, while being an avid advocate for public education as a board member of the Parent Teacher Student Association and School Advisory Committee. He was admitted to The University of Chicago on a full-ride scholarship and plans to major in Public Policy.

Dariel has shown a strong interest in Public Policy from a young age and has gained invaluable experience as an intern at Open Primaries, where he helped in election reform through a state-wide ballot initiative in 2020. He was featured on Florida Trend magazine and The Miami Herald for this work. He also had the opportunity to work as a Communications Director for the Maria for School Board campaign, where he focused on racial equality within the K-12 school system.

As a first-generation college student, Dariel is blazing the trail for his family and community by attending one of the top ranked colleges in the world.

We are proud to name Dariel the 2022 recipient of the BSF and award him with a $1,000 scholarship.
